Sharon Van Etten is back with a new album featuring her new band, The Attachment Theory, that consists of Jorge Balbi (drums, machines), Devra Hoff (bass, vocals), and former TEEN frontperson Teeny Lieberson (synth, piano, guitar, vocals). Their self-titled album will be out February 7 via Jagjaguwar (preorder).
The album was made as a full collaboration between the band members. “For the first time in my life I asked the band if we could just jam,” says SVE. “Words that have never come out of my mouth – ever! But I loved all the sounds we were getting. I was curious – what would happen?” They made the album with producer Marta Salogni (Bjork, Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Mica Levi) at Eurythmics’ former London studio, The Church (now owned by Paul Epworth).
It’s a decidedly moodier, synthier sound, at least on alluring first single “Afterlife,” which is clearly Sharon Van Etten but like you’ve never heard her before. You can watch the video, directed by Susu Laroche, below.
