New Order announced today that “Due to personal health reasons,” founding members and longtime couple Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert won’t be “touring for the foreseeable future” in regards to the band’s performance at Fauna Primavera in Chile in November.
“Bernard, Phil and Tom are really sorry that Stephen and Gillian can’t join us this time, but unfortunately the circumstances make it impossible,” New Order write.
This means singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner will be the only original member of the group at this show. Phil Cunningham joined New Order in 2001 when Gilbert couldn’t tour, and bassist Tom Chapman joined when original bassist Peter Hook split from the band in 2007. Gillian rejoined the band in 2011 and Cunningham stayed in the band. No word on who will be playing drums for this and other upcoming shows.
We certainly hope everything is all right in Stephen and Gillian’s world and wish them the best of health.
Peter Hook, meanwhile, will be taking his band The Light on the road this fall, playing New Order’s 2001 album Get Ready in full along with a second set of New Order and Joy division songs.
