Brooklyn-based band Momma returned with their first new single in nearly two years, “Ohio All The Time,” in October, and now they’ve announced a new album, Welcome to My Blue Sky, due out April 4 via Polyvinyl/Lucky Number. It was produced by the band’s Aron Kobayashi Ritch, and co-founders Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman wrote most of it together on acoustic guitar. “With this album we were less concerned with sounding cool and heavy and rock & roll and much more focused on good, clean songwriting that hopefully inspires people to sing along and mean every word,” Weingarten says.
Friedman adds, “In a way it felt like we flipped our entire lives upside down. We needed to lean on each other to cope with everything we were going through, and writing songs together was a big part of working through those feelings and finally putting them to rest.”
They’ve shared another single from the album, the catchy “I Want You (Fever),” which they say is “a song we wrote about wanting to be with someone who has a girlfriend, or someone who isn’t over their ex. It’s pining after someone, but there’s also some confidence knowing that that person wants to be with you. The second we wrote that song we felt like we were entering a new era – we scrapped everything we had written for the album up to that point because it felt so fresh and so exciting.” Watch the video, directed by Jaxon Whittington, below.
Momma also announced a spring North American tour, which runs through April and May ahead of their festival dates at Primavera Sound and Outbreak. Brennan Wedl, On Being an Angel, and Wishy each open select shows, and you can see all dates below.
The tour wraps up in NYC, on May 31 at Warsaw with Wishy. Tickets to all dates go on sale Friday, January 31 at 10 AM local.
