MJ Lenderman has been going nonstop since releasing his excellent new album Manning Fireworks (our #2 album of 2024), and that’s included on-stage appearances with Dinosaur Jr, Drive-By Truckers, Yo La Tengo, and Waxahatchee; his late night TV debut on Fallon; and covering a This Is Lorelei song at his Atlanta show earlier this week. Now, he took his show to NPR’s Tiny Desk.
With an entirely acoustic six-piece band–including upright bass, piano, dobro, fiddle, and more–Lenderman ran through gorgeous renditions of three Manning Fireworks songs (“Wristwatch,” “Rip Torn,” and “You Don’t Know The Shape I’m In”), and he also broke out an older cut, “Catholic Priest” from his 2021 album Ghost of Your Guitar Solo. It’s an awesome performance, and you can watch the whole thing below.
Lenderman also once again extended his busy touring schedule, including the addition of his largest headlining show to date, LA’s Shrine Expo Hall on September 11, along with a handful of other new shows. As previously mentioned, he does a sold-out three-night run at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on April 28, 29, and 30 with Joanna Sternberg on night one, the aforementioned This Is Lorelei on night two, and Nap Eyes on night three.
