Amyl and The Sniffers‘ new album Cartoon Darkness is out in exactly one month, and they’ve just shared a new single. “Big Dreams” is pretty different for Amyl, a brooding, slow burn that keeps things at a simmer till opening up into widescreen rock glory in the last minute or so. It’s not exactly a ballad but does present another side of the band, which makes for a nice contrast to their high-octane rippers.
“I am writing this before ‘Big Dreams’ comes out, and I am actually a bit nervous that it’s a single, because it’s so different from a lot of people’s expectations of us,” frontperson Amy Taylor says. “This song was written because a lot of people in my life are struggling financially, and it’s really hard to make your dreams come true when you’re trying to get by day-to-day. But when I think of my friends doing what they love, and I see how good they are at it, I just know they’ve never been dull, they’ve always been lit, and there’s nothing that will break that or take it away from them.
“Big Dreams” comes with a vibey video by phcfilms that has the group riding across the desert on motorcycles in one unbroken shot. “The video we shot in the desert, it was the first clip we shot for this album,” Taylor says. “It was fun as hell.” Watch that below.
Cartoon Darkness is out October 25 and they’ll be on tour across the UK and Europe in November. Their only 2025 show currently is that massive gig opening for Fontaines D.C. at London’s Finsbury Park in July.
