The Cure, The Twilight Sad @ Madison Square Garden
The Cure have been wowing fans on this current tour with three-hour sets filled with favorites, deep cuts, and a few new songs as well. Tonight’s the second of their three-night MSG run.
Leftover Crack, Days N Daze, All Torn Up @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Last year Leftover Crack released Constructs of the State, their first album since 2004, and they proved they can still do ripping ska-core better than most. Tonight’s show should be a fun one.
Rainer Maria, Shellshag @ Union Pool
Polyvinyl indie/emo vets Rainer Maria returned on New Year’s Eve 2015, and they’ve been keeping the reunion going pretty steadily. They sound great as ever, as you can witness for yourself at the intimate Union Pool this month.
Turnover, Sports, Secret Space @ Market Hotel
This is a cool triple bill with Turnover, who make emo-tinged dream pop (dreamo?), scrappy Ohio pop punks Sports, and punkgazers Secret Space.
Violent Femmes @ Stone Pony Summer Stage
While later albums have been hit for miss, there is no denying that The Violent Femmes’ debut album is a stone-cold teen angst classic. It’s a nice day, an outdoor show, so go ahead and sing along with “Blister in the Sun,” “Add it Up,” and “Gone Daddy Gone.”
Xeno & Oaklander (DJ), Heathered Pearls (DJ) @ LeFrak Center at Lakeside Prospect Park
This is part of the ‘Magic Hour’ rollerskating series, expect a lot of synthpop with Xeno & Oaklander behind the decks today.
John Holstrom (“Punk” magazine), Roberta Bayley (photographer), Chris Stein (of Blondie) @ Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
Part of the Ramones exhibit at the Queens Museum, there are two talks today: the first is from 1-2:30 PM with Punk Magazine co-founder and cartoonist John Holmstrom, photographer Roberta Bayley, and contributing editor Chris Stein (of Blondie).
Deer Leap, Perspective, A Lovely Hand To Hold, Animal Flag, David F. Bello @ Aviv
New Hampshire’s Deer Leap are signed to Broken World (the label run by Derrick of TWIABP), and if you like the kind of stuff that label generally signs, you’ll probably like these guys too. TWIABP singer David F. Bello opens this show with a solo set.
