Wild Pink‘s new album Dulling The Horns is out today via Fire Talk Records. It finds the band’s gently propulsive indie heartland rock in great form, and it brings in a noisier, heavier, fuzzed-out side too. Having written their previous album, 2022’s ILYSM, as bandleader John Ross was diagnosed with cancer, he says this album “came from the feeling of figuring out how do you deal with things and move forward and just keep creating.”
To coincide with the release of the album, John has made us a list of 10 songs he’s listened to over 100 times, including songs by New Order, Joe Strummer, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sandro Perri, Jimmy Eat World, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and more, and he gave a little commentary on each one. Wild Pink also have several tour dates coming up, including Brooklyn shows on November 22, 23, and 24 at Union Pool with Irish singer/songwriter John Francis Flynn on night one, The Natvral (aka Kip Berman from the aforementioned Pains of Being Pure at Heart) on night two, and Bloomsday on the just-added night three. After that, they have a West Coast tour with MJ Lenderman in early 2025. All dates are listed below.

New Order – “Your Silent Face”
I’m listening to this song right now. Love all the textures and Bernard Summer’s voice. Obviously prefer New Order to Joy Division and this has gotta be my most repeated New Order song.
The Records – “Starry Eyes”
Love this song so much, I play it for my baby a lot. Incredible song about a band firing their manager.
Joe Strummer – “Burning Lights”
A recent song I’ve had on repeat. There are 2 or 3 other Joe Strummer songs I’ve got on heavy rotation right now but this is my favorite one.
Carly Rae Jepsen – “I Really Like You”
Huge Carly song, I just love it. Listened to it many, many times.
Sandro Perri – “In Another Life”
I played this on repeat driving 4 hours to play a show with M Ward down in Ardmore PA then played it on repeat 4 hours back home that night. Obsessed with this song. Can’t listen to it enough.
Phil Cook – “The Jensens”
Don’t really know what to say about this one, I just love it a lot. His steel playing reminds me of Mike ‘slo-mo’ Brenner’s playing. Very cool song that I’ve played 100+ times.
Jimmy Eat World – “Speed Read”
This was the first song I put on repeat over and over. Used to listen to this in 9th grade all damn night long. Huge inspo on my high school personality. I recently had the opportunity to tell Jim how obsessed with this song I am on insta DM and he was like whoa, ok thanks.
Brian Eno – “An Ending”
I don’t think I’ve listened to a song more times than this one. I think I read somewhere it was reversed before it was released. I reversed it and played that a bunch of times too. There’s a live version of this by Icebreaker that’s pretty incredible.
Cocteau Twins – “Fotzepolitic”
This song was on heavy repeat when I was writing the Yolk In The Fur record. Heaven Or Las Vegas is a great record but this song especially is incredible. Our song ‘Jewels Drossed In The Runoff’ was pretty much an attempt to copy it.
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – “I Know My Life Is Wrong”
I love the original version of this song by East River Pipe but maybe love this version even more. I used to walk around Greenpoint listening to it on repeat a lot.
