Teeny Lieberson is currently a member of Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, but she’s an indie veteran, having played in Luke Temple’s Here We Go Magic and led TEEN alongside her sisters Katherine and Lizzie throughout the 2010s. (She’s also spent time as a touring member of Sleater-Kinney.) These days she makes her own music via solo project Lou Tides and will release a new album, Autostatic!, on May 30 via Switch Hit Records. She made the album with co-producer Bartees Strange, and it features her sister Lizzie, drummer Sarah Galdes, drummer and producer Vishal Nayak, and Miles Francis.
“I think of these songs as ghosts and New York being their haunting ground,” Teeny says of the album. “This city is full of them.”
The first single from the album is its title track, and if you like the synthy, gothy, new wave elements of The Attachment Theory album, you can hear that here too. “It is easy to confuse replicating the machinery of capitalism with meaningful creative activity,” Teeny says. “What can feel like progress may just be keeping ourselves running on a treadmill partially of our own making. How much energy can be used under the guise of productivity, but actually creating stasis, hence Autostatic.”
