Glassjaw vocalist Daryl Palumbo has been in the midst of reviving Head Automatica, who have NYC and Long Island shows later this month, and now they’ve just released their first new song since their 2006 sophomore album Popaganda. Both Head Automatica albums were entirely different from one another, and new single “Bear The Cross” makes yet another sonic departure for Daryl. It dives head-first into industrial territory, topped off by that unmistakable Daryl Palumbo sneer.
“To me, ‘Bear The Cross’ is both a logical and unexpected evolution of Head Automatica’s sound,” Daryl says. “The sounds and ideas are very familiar but age undeniably changes your personality, creative leanings and approach. There is an urgency and boldness in what you feel empowered to produce after a certain point. ‘Bear The Cross,” and our new material on the whole are a reflection of that while still constantly maintaining a body moving element.” It sounds like a pretty great comeback to me–hear it for yourself below.
The NY shows happen at Bowery Ballroom on May 29 with thoughtcrimes (mem Dillinger Escape Plan) and 89 North on May 31 with Family Dinner and Atomic Life.
