Foxing announced their new self-titled album with the slow-burning, eight-minute lead single “Greyhound,” and they’ve just shared another new song that shows off a much different side of this new album. Foxing have screamed on a handful of songs in the past, but new single “Hell 99” is the closest they’ve ever come to straight-up screamo, and it should come as no surprise that Foxing know exactly how to pull this off. They do it in the way that only Foxing can, and it’s not just a screamo song; it has plenty of melodic clean-sung parts, noise parts, atmospheric passages, and more. It sounds like a cross between the scrappy basement shows that Foxing played in their early days and the grand art rock band they’ve turned into over the years, and the self-directed, psychedelic New Year’s Eve Y2K-themed video toes a similar line.
“‘Hell 99’ is about burnout and fatigue,” guitarist Eric Hudson says. “It is meant to capture frustration and mania with repeating cultural trends, the way a cat video and a horrifying news story can be viewed in successive moments, and the mental fatigue and shame that you are left with in taking it all in.” Check it out below.
Speaking of Foxing’s early basement shows, they’re hand-picking local openers at every stop of their upcoming fall tour as a way to keep the DIY community they came from alive, and they’re taking submissions via email (to Foxingtour@gmail.com) from bands that would like a chance to open for them in their city. If this is you, today (8/21) is actually the deadline to submit, so get on that.
The tour also has direct support from their former Triple Crown labelmates From Indian Lakes on all dates, including NYC’s Racket on October 29. All dates are listed below.
