Charli XCX has been in NYC for this past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, where she pulled double duty as host and musical guest, performing “360” and “Sympathy is a knife,” and appearing in nearly every sketch (including one where she and other SNL cast members sung a parody of recent SNL performer Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”). She also posted an Instagram story that indicates she’ll be sticking around a little longer for some sort of “surprise.” No concrete details on what that is have been revealed yet, but fans on social media have pointed out that H&M is also teasing a surprise NYC event, happening today (11/18). We’re not 100% sure if these are connected, but Charli recently starred in an H&M campaign and did a London performance for the fashion retailer, and the text for the H&M event is Brat green. Sign ups for the event are open, and they say “details will be announced at 6:00 PM on 11.18.2024.” Will NYC get a similar treatment as London did? Stay tuned to find out.
UPDATE: Those who signed up for the H&M event got emails this afternoon revealing that the event was going down at the outdoor TSX Stage in Times Square at 1568 Broadway (the same location that the recent surprise Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice show for Fornite happened), and though a second email went out saying that details in the previous email (including a no-longer-necessary QR code) weren’t accurate, fans began lining up outside the stage in Times Square before the sun went down. H&M and Charli then both confirmed the event shortly after 6 PM.
Charli wrote, “I’m performing live today in Times Square at 6:30 PM, so don’t miss out if you’re in New York.” The H&M email read, “The secret is out! H&M&Charli xcx live performance at 6.30-6.45PM TODAY! Everyone’s invited, first come first serve.”
As promised, Charli took the stage at 6:30 and she gave a 15-minute performance with five songs from this year’s Brat: “365,” “360,” “Von dutch,” “Apple,” and “Guess.” Some people thought Lorde might show up but no such luck. Charli also DJed an SNL afterparty with her fiance George Daniel of The 1975, frequent collaborator A.G. Cook, and others. Watch video below.
