Dublin band The Murder Capital have announced their third album, Blindness, which will be out February 21 via Human Seasons. They made the album in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton. “He wanted us not to start demo-ing or layering any tracks, just phone-record everything,” says frontman James McGovern of Congleton’s process. “That way, by the time we got to the studio, no song was suffocated by what it needed to be, it was about what the song could become.”
As to themes of the album, McGovern says: “There’s what’s in front of us, in our immediate field of vision. There are the things we can touch, the love we can feel. Then there’s everything else. Blindness is the warped belief. The behind us. The secluded. Love at a distance. Faith in denial. Distorted patriotism. The fading face of moments in the rear view. Blindness brings it all into focus.”
Blindness includes “Can’t Pretend to Know,” which was released earlier this year, and the new single is “Words Lost Meaning,” which has been in The Murder Capital’s live set for a while. It’s a little grimy and grungy, not unlike Mark Lanegan, but still with the strong melodic sense they brought to Gigi’s Recovery. Listen below.
