So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ZACH BRYAN – “THIS WORLD’S A GIANT”
Zach Bryan stays incredibly prolific, and today he’s back with a new single, “This World’s A Giant.” It’s a somber alt-country song with Bon Iver-esque horns and harmony vocals from Heaven Scmidtt of Grumpy, and it builds to a pretty towering climax.

SBTKRT – “TURN YOUR HEART AROUND”
SBTRKT has been dropping a string of new singles this year, all with similar artwork, and this week brings this catchy, clubby jam powered by a pitched-up vocal sample that’s sugar-sweet.

NIIS – “LOVESICK”
LA’s NIIS (pronounced “nice”) signed to Get Better Records, and their first single for the label is the sneering, melodic punk song “Lovesick.”

SPY – “ON THE BRINK”
Bay Area hardcore band Spy have been rising up for a while, and today they’ve signed to Closed Casket Activities, who will release their next EP in early 2025. Details TBA, but they did just release their first single for CCA, “On The Brink.” Read more here.

ELBOW – “ADRIANA AGAIN”
Elbow released the great AUDIO VERTIGO earlier this year and are following it up with a new EP that will be out early next year. Details are still TBA but first single “Adriana Again” sounds very promising.

BADBADNOTGOOD – “POEIRA COSMICA” FT TIM BERNARDES
If you attended BADBADNOTGOOD’s residency at NYC’s Blue Note you might have heard “Poeira Cosmica” which features Tim Bernardes. Here’s the studio version which also features arrangements by Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai.

LAIBACH – “STRANGE FRUIT”
Slovenian industrial greats Laibach have released their take on classic protest song “Strange Fruit” (made famous by Billie Holiday). Say the band: “There’s something that’s still very radioactive about the song; it’s still relevant because race is still relevant. The impulses that Meeropol was talking about are very much still with us, on the front pages of our newspapers and across our social media every day. For us, ‘Strange Fruit’ evokes racial injustice, representing not just lynchings, but racism generally. Racism is a virus that mutates, taking on different forms as it adapts to a changing environment. Its mutation is made harder to observe by it being deeply embedded, not only in our traditions and institutions, but also in our unconscious lives.”

DWIGHT YOAKAM – “I’LL PAY THE PRICE”
Dwight Yoakam’s new album, Brighter Days, is out next week and just ahead of that he’s dropped this new song from it.

MOREISH IDOLS – “SLOUCH”
London group Moreish Idols are back with this moody, danceable new single for Speedy Wunderground that was produced by label founder Dan Carey. “To be told you have something for life can be daunting and scary, but you must be reminded how lucky you are when there is a system of care,” says the band’s Jude Lilley who was diagnosed with chronic autoimmune disease Ankylosing spondylitis, which this song is about. “This process forced a reconsideration of what has been taken for granted and presented the opportunity to rejuvenate oneself in a way that surpasses physical form. There is no cure but there are ways to adapt with the help of medication, and if you can keep going, it’s just another card that’s been dealt. In a way, Slouch is a love letter to the NHS, a thank you for making this slouching king feel pretty.”

WE ARE WOLVES – “SEUL AU CINÉMA” (FT OLIVER ACKERMANN OF APTBS)
Long-running Montreal darkwave psych band We Are Wolves release their new album NADA this week and new single “Seul au cinéma” tips its hat to early New Order and features Oliver Ackermann of A Place to Bury Strangers.

JOHN DOUGLAS (TRASHCAN SINATRAS) – “JOHNSBURGH, ILLINOIS” (TOM WAITS COVER)
John Douglas of Scottish indie greats Trashcan Sinatras has a new EP, Still or Sparkling, that’s out this week and one of the tracks is this cover of Tom Waits’ Swordfishtrombones classic “Johnsburgh, Illinois.” The song features former Fairground Attraction singer Eddi Reader (and sister of TCS’ Frank Reader) on backing vocals.

CISTERN – “CRISIS”
British Columbia band Cistern will release mini album New Standard on November 22 via Meat Machine (who put out Crack Cloud’s first two albums). “Crisis” is punk influenced but not punk excactly, at lest in the 12341234! kind of way. Melodic and taut, and a little reminiscent of The Cribs’ early albums.

INDIAN PALE MALE – “DANCE OF THE RED HERRINGS”
Manchester, UK’s Indian Pale Male makes quirky DIY pop with song titles like “Are you feeling lucky post-punk?” and “Treading Water in the Shallow End.” His new album Dance of the Red Herrings was produced by Jim Noir and released on Jim’s label Dook Recordings label.

HONESTY – “TORMENTOR”
HONESTY was formed by ex-Eagulls frontman George Mitchell and the band’s debut album will be out in February via Partisan. There are some dark, Tricky-esque vibes to this one.
