We’ve been posting reactions by American musicians to Donald Trump’s presidential election win, but here’s one one from some Australians who spend a lot of time here and are on tour in the US now: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
“It’s a sad day for people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, women, those with disabilities,” the band wrote in their Instagram stories, before noting the environmental implications of Trump’s win. “It’s a sad day for planet Earth, the climate, the soil we grow our food in, the air we fucking breathe. As a band of six white dudes, I acknowledge the privilege that we have. We work really hard to create a community which is inclusive and progressive. We’ll keep fighting for you. We love you.”
The environment crisis is the subject of at least one King Gizzard album, 2023’s PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.
King Gizzard played San Francisco on Wednesday and play Las Vegas on Friday, and will wrap up their fall tour in Miami on November 21. They’ll be back next summer with an orchestra in tow.
