So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE LAST DINNER PARTY – “THIS TOWN AIN’T BIG ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US” (SPARKS COVER)
The new deluxe Acoustics and Covers version of The Last Dinner Party’s great 2024 debut Prelude to Ecstasy includes new acoustic and live tracks, and a dramatic new Sparks cover.

JAMIE XX – “DAFODIL” FT. KELSEY LU, JOHN GLACIER, PANDA BEAR
Jamie xx’s new album In Waves arrives next month, and he’s shared another advance single, “Dafodil,” which features Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, and Panda Bear. “Dafodil was one of the first pieces of music that I made for this album, it was actually the song that made me realise I could finally make another album,” Jamie says. “I am forever grateful to Kelsey Lu, with whom this song began as voice notes about a hazy night we both remembered. Thank you to John Glacier and Panda Bear whose voices perfectly evoke the unique feeling of summer nights in London.” Kelsey adds, “Dafodil. A fun ride into a cute sexy hazy night in London shared with my dear friend Jamie xx. Memories of my first London summer I’ll cherish forever that are now encapsulated for us all to be in ecstasy together. See you on the dance floor.”

BETTER LOVERS – “FUTURE MYOPIA”
Every Time I Die/Dillinger Escape Plan supergroup have shared another song off their upcoming debut album Highly Irresponsible, and after getting a little more melodic than usual on “A White Horse Covered In Blood,” this one’s pure chaos.

KILLER MIKE – “DETONATOR” (prod. EL-P)
Killer Mike and his Run The Jewels partner El-P have teamed once again for the sinister, neck-snapping “Detonator.” Mike made it for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, but it’s as good as anything on his proper albums.

CORDAE – “SUMMER DROP” (ft. ANDERSON .PAAK, prod. J. COLE)
Just ahead of Labor Day, Cordae keeps up with Anderson .Paak and J. Cole for a soulful summer drop.

FENTANYL – “SILVER HOUR”
Fentanyl (members of Spiritual Cramp, Spy, and World Peace) have shared another track off their self-titled debut album, and it’s another screechy hardcore punk ripper.

HANK HEAVEN – “BELOVED” FT. BEACH BUNNY
Brooklyn-based artist Hank Heaven teamed up with Beach Bunny’s Lili Trifilio on new single “Beloved,” which Hank says is “about how isolating anger is. Though hating someone is a lonely experience I was stoked to have Lili of Beach Bunny feature on the track to show how universal that loneliness is.”

MICHELLE – “CATHY”
“‘Cathy’ is a soft indie song about being alone after a breakup and leaning into all the thoughts and patterns you know you shouldn’t,” MICHELLE say of the latest single from their new album Songs About You Specifically.

KATRINA FORD – “DUNDALK DUNGEON”
Celebration frontperson Katrina Ford is back with this new solo single that was co-written with bandmate Sean Antanaitis. “We wrote this song in July 2023,” Katrina says. “Tragically on March 26th 2024, six construction workers were killed when a container ship struck the Key Bridge and it collapsed. This is lighthearted though, inspired by the beauty and the grime of Baltimore. In Dundalk Dungeon, the Baltimore harbor’s geography is personified as a gambler in an illegal establishment, a secret bar known as The Dungeon. Now its meaning is more nuanced, with the loss.”

SLEEPYHEAD – “HOPE THAT YOU’RE LONELY”
Long-running indie rock group Sleepyhead play Dromedary Records’ Dromfest this weekend in the Catskills, and to hype you up for that they’ve shared this new single. “Despite the seemingly harsh title, ‘Hope That You’re Lonely’ is meant to be a hopeful song,” says guitarist and vocalist Chris O’Rourke. “It’s about someone who has faced disappointment with less-than-ideal partners and is now looking forward to a better connection. The song conveys a wish to fill a gap in someone’s life with genuine affection and understanding.”

ONEDA – “LET ME IN”
Manchester rapper OneDa will release her debut album Formula OneDa in October and new single “Let Me In” is a great showcase for her unique hybrid style. “’Let Me In’ is a metaphor for being accepted into the industry as I am,” OneDa says. “It speaks to my relentless, consistent efforts to break through until the door finally opens.”

OFFICE DOG – “INTACT”
New Zealand band Office Dog, led by Kane Strang, will release new EP, Doggerland, on September 27 via New West. “Doggerland is the name of a place in the northern hemisphere that was once inhabited by people and then completely submerged by the sea,” says Strang. “Since themes of water, surfacing, and things like that were naturally appearing in my lyrics as we worked on these songs in late 2023, we named the EP after it.” As for first single “Intact,” Strang says “Like the rest of Doggerland, when it came to recording the song, we tried to experiment with making things more textural, but still not stray too far from the live sound of the band. This included re-amping a lot of the instrumentation to give it a more interesting feel and De also added some synthy drones underneath it all.”

THE THE – “SOME DAYS I DRINK MY COFFEE BY THE GRAVE OF WILLIAM BLAKE”
The The’s first album in 24 years, Ensoulment, is out next week and here’s one final appetizer before you can dig into the whole thing. This video was shot by Tim Pope who did most of The The’s best-known ’80s/’90s videos.
