Minor Threat was one of the most formative influences on youth crew legends Gorilla Biscuits in the first place, and GB have covered Minor Threat’s eponymous song “Minor Threat” several times throughout their last decade-plus of reunion shows. But when they played it at Salty’s Beach Bar in Lake Como, NJ on Saturday (8/31), it was extra special, because this time they had Minor Threat’s own Brian Baker (later of Dag Nasty, Bad Religion, and more) on guitar. (He lives in the area.)
“Dreams do come true for hardcore boys and girls,” CIV said while introducing the song on stage. “Now do me a favor,” he continued. “You can break me and Walter and the other guys; do not break Brian Baker. I don’t wanna be held responsible. He’s tougher than he looks, but do not break him.” (Brian looked amused.) Walter also posted a pic of him and Brian on stage and wrote, “SO fun to share the stage w the GOAT Brian Baker for a version of Minor Threat AKA the national anthem of hardcore.”
Brian shared the same pic and wrote, “Pre-jam confab with consummate profesh Walter Schreifels to determine proper key, chords before performing vintage harDCore tune with Gorilla Biscuits down the Shore last night. This band is fucking great – best show I’ve seen all year. Thanks for having me fellow kids.”
