Longtime Rancid guitarist/co-vocalist Lars Frederiksen (also of Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Oxley’s Midnight Runners, Stomper 98, The Last Resort, the Old Firm Casuals, and more) has announced that he’ll be selling nearly 30 guitars on Reverb, including a 1993 Epiphone Les Paul that he used on Rancid’s classic albums Let’s Go and …And Out Come the Wolves. “I played it about a week or two ago and it still sounds awesome,” Lars says of that one in particular, “but you know what—it’s time to find another home for this one.”
He’ll also be selling the smashed Gibson that appears on the cover of the “Roots Radicals” 7″, and which Lars says was his first real guitar. “It’s in great shape, as you can see,” he jokes. “Super playable. Obviously the sustain’s kind of shit, but other than that, it sounds great.” The guitar has band stickers and it comes in a case that Lars used while he was playing with the UK Subs.
Lars is also parting ways with his 1965 Gibson SG Special that features the word “Viking” in stickers and appears on the cover of Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards’ Viking album. “This one’s a really exciting one,” he says. “This was my main guitar for years in Rancid and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards. It’s a crazy piece of history.”
Other axes in his shop include a black Fender Telecaster that Lars used on Rancid’s 1998 album Life Won’t Wait, a blue Epiphone G-400 that Lars had custom made, a a white 1984 Gibson Explorer that was used on the last few Rancid albums and with the Old Firm Casuals, a Jackson Demmelition King V that Lars has used on Rancid records, a B.C. Rich Kerry King Warlock that Lars used on “so many records,” a black ESP LTD Viper that was the first prototype of Lars’ signature guitar, an ESP Mille Petrozza signature guitar, an ESP LTD Ted Aguilar-600, and more.
