Thursday night was the end of the summer season for Late Night With Seth Meyers, but also the final show to feature The 8G Band, who have been playing live on the show since the start. Fred Armisen, who put together the group (Girls Against Boys‘ Eli Janney, Les Savy Fav‘s Seth Jabour and Syd Butler) in 2014, was back in the drummer’s seat for this curtain call, and he also talked to Seth about putting the band together and how over the last 12 years there have been over 200 guest drummers filling in for Fred when he was off doing other things.
Joining the 8G band on guitar for their final night was Bob Mould, and they all closed out the show with Hüsker Dü’s “Makes No Sense at All.” Watch that and the interview with Fred below.
Speaking of all those guest drummers, Late Night saluted them all in an Instagram post, along with profiles of Fred, Eli, Seth and Syd and those are below as well.
Fred was back in the drummer chair for the whole week, and other guests in the band included Craig Finn and Eleanor Friedberger.
The 8G Band will still be making new music for Late Night, just not appearing on the show (budget cuts).
Late Night is on vacation, but will have a special Prime Time one-hour A Closer Look special following the Kamala Harris / Donald Trump presidential debate on September 11.
