The newly remastered, restored and expanded edition of The Beatles Anthology documentary series premieres on Disney+ over three days of Thanksgiving Day weekend (November 26-28). They’ve taken the original ABC documentary, which aired in December 1995, given it a new multi-channel sound mix and HD picture — courtesy Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post in Wellington, New Zealand who made The Beatles: Get Back possible — and have added a ninth episode which follows what has happened to the band and its members in the last 30 years.
A week ahead of its premiere, Disney+ have shared a trailer for The Beatles Anthology and you can watch that below.
There is also a new edition of The Beatles Anthology compilation album that’s out this week and you can pick up the 3-LP vinyl set in the BV Shop.
Meanwhile, Paul McCartney has a new oral history about his post-Beatles band, Wings, which is titled The Story of a Band on the Run and was released earlier this month. It’s a companion piece to Morgan Neville’s documentary Man on the Run which premiered at the Telluride Film Fest earlier this year — stay tuned for a proper release. You can watch a trailer for the book below and check out an excerpt from Paul reading the audiobook over at Rolling Stone.
Also, as Stereogum points out, Paul McCartney has contributed a bonus track to the vinyl edition of anti-AI compilation Is This What We Want? It’s a recording of an empty studio, very John Cage, and the compilation also includes silent tracks from Kate Bush, Damon Albarn, New Order, Annie Lennox, and more. You can find out more here.
