Indie vets +/- (Plus/Minus) released Further Afield, their first album in a decade, back in the spring, and it’s one of their — and the year’s — best. They’ve made a video for the cinematic highlight “The Pull from Both Sides.”
“For this video, we started with grandiose ideas about a complex animation synced with the glitchy pulses of the song,” James Baluyut tells us. ” We shot this closeup footage to intersperse with the animation, but when we watched everything back, we quickly realized that we loved the shots as is. The stark nature of the backlit closeups match the stark nature of much of the song. The viewer doesn’t get a ton of information in the shots so they’re forced to find what they can in the detail. This simple approach seemed better to us. We think it worked out well!” Watch the video below.
The band are also playing Industry City Courtyard on Friday, September 20 as part of the Love Hangover Powerpop Mini-Festival, which also features Gramercy Arms (Dave Derby of Dambuilders), Renée LoBue: Echoes of Earth, Jessie Kilguss, and The Winter Drinks. The flyer for that show is below.
