Nate Amos called last year’s Box For Buddy, Box For Star (one of our favorite albums of the year) his debut LP as This is Lorelei, but he’s been releasing material under the moniker for years, before his band with Rachel Brown, Water From Your Eyes, even formed. Amos has returned to some of that material for Holo Boy, which a press release calls This is Lorelei’s “sort-of-second sort-of-album,” due out December 12 via Double Double Whammy. He re-recorded the songs, which were written between 2014 and 2021, in May of 2025 for this release, and says, “I tried to look at the catalog as little as possible and more just think to myself, ‘What are songs from the past that I feel like are good songs, demonstrate growth, and are significant to me, in terms of embodying a certain period of time?’”
“The songs on Box for Buddy, Box for Star are really similar,” he adds, “and they’re produced in such a way that the differences are accentuated, whereas with Holo Boy, the songs are really different, but they’re produced in such a way that the commonalities are accentuated.”
The first single is the catchy, kinda pop-punky “Name the Band,” which you can hear below.
Amos is on tour through November as Water From Your Eyes, and has a couple of This is Lorelei shows lined up before the year is over: at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 17 (with Dutch Interior), and at Philadelphia’s The Fillmore on December 19 (as part of The Front Bottoms‘ Champagne Jam fest).
