The Offspring have strayed from high-speed punk rock a handful of times throughout their 40-year-long career, including on some of their biggest singles, but this year they’ve been doing some fan service for those who want “just the punk stuff.” They released a digital compilation album called Just The Punk Stuff with 20 of the fastest songs in their catalog, including some stuff from their 1989 self-titled debut album that they haven’t played live in decades, and they have two “Just The Punk Stuff” shows in Canada coming up in just a few days. Fortunately for those in the New York/New Jersey area, they’ve just added another one of these shows happening right before they play Asbury Park’s Sea.Hear.Now in September. It goes down at Asbury Park venue The Stone Pony on September 18, one day before The Offspring play the festival, and it’s being presented by Sea.Hear.Now. Tickets go on sale Thursday, July 30 at 10 AM ET.
When they announced the Canadian shows, the band said: “We can’t deny you any longer! Amongst the ‘billions’ of comments on our socials, we keep seeing more and more requests for the deep cuts—the ‘Punk Stuff’ that we don’t usually play in our regular set. ‘Play your old shit!’ We see it over and over again. And we hear you. So here it is: two exclusive Quebec shows where we’re going to play only the punk stuff, the old stuff, the songs dear to us—our roots, the place we came from.” Some of the deep cuts on the compilation album were also included in our 2020 list of The Offspring’s best deep cuts.
