When The Cure announced they were playing a concert for the BBC just ahead of the release of their new album Songs of a Lost World, Robert Smith wrote “ALBEIT WE WILL BE PLAYING NEW SONGS, THE BBC SESSIONS IS NOT A SOALW ‘ALBUM LAUNCH’ SHOW,” and told fans to stay tuned. We now know what he meant. The Cure have announced an official album launch show on November 1 at The Troxy in London.
For your chance at tickets, you’ll need to preorder Songs of a Lost World from “your local UMG Cure Official Store or Procurements store” before 11:59 AM BST on October 16. They note that doing so does not guarantee you tickets but does give you access to the sale. Note: The Troxy’s capacity is a little over 3000, so this is a very intimate show for them. For everyone else, they’ll be streaming it live globally via The Cure’s YouTube.

Meanwhile, The Cure are on the cover of the new issue of UK music mag Uncut, with an exclusive interview with Robert Smith. He talks about the new album, of course, and when we’ll get a tour. “We were going to play festivals next year but a couple weeks ago I decided that we wouldn’t be going to play anything next summer,” he told Uncut. “The next time we go out on stage will be autumn next year. But then we’ll probably be playing quite regularly through until the next anniversary — the 2028 anniversary [the 50th anniversary of The Cure] — which is looming on the horizon. I’m 70 in 2029 and that’s the 50th anniversary of the first Cure album. That’s really it, if I make it that far. So in the intervening time, I’d like us to play concerts as part of the overall plan. The last 10 years of playing shows have been the best 10 years of being in the band. It pisses all over the other 30-odd years.”
