Detroit-based singer-songwriter Stef Chura has announced her first new album in seven years. Dancing Alone on the Concrete is due out October 2 via Saddle Creek. It’s the follow-up to 2019’s Midnight, and she worked on it with producer Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo. It also features Sugar‘s David Barbe, Now It’s Overhead‘s Andy LeMaster, and Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M.. See the cover art and tracklist below.
The first single is the yearning, bittersweet “Danny,” which Buck and Mills play on. “I met someone who was traveling through New Orleans,” Chura says. “We had an instant rapport and an easy chemistry, and it reminded me what excitement could feel like. I wrote ‘Danny’ as an ode to the fantasy of meeting someone who could sweep me off my feet when I felt like I needed rescuing. He invited me to a party, but I stayed home and watched the clock tick instead. Afterwards I couldn’t stop imagining the version of myself who had gone, who had seized the moment.”
