Former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft has shared his first new single in seven years. “Lover” was co-produced by Ashcroft and Emre Ramazanoglu and incorporates elements of “Love and Affection” by Joan Armatrading, who gave him permission to do so. (Richard hasn’t done something like this since sampling the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra for “Bittersweet Symphony.”) While it’s still in Ashcroft’s anthemic melodic style, “Lover” is a modern-sounding production and you can watch the video below.
Ashcroft will spend the summer on tour with Oasis across the UK with Cast also on the bill. He’s also got headline shows before that and all dates are listed below.
