Bibi Club are the Montreal duo of Nic Basque (Plants and Animals) and Adèle Trottier-Rivard, who together make minimal, often danceable and Francophone-inspired indie rock. They released their Polaris-long-listed debut album last year and will release its follow-up, Feu de garde, on May 10 via Secret City Records. They produced the album themselves, but got Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding) to mix it, and it features contributions from Helena Deland, Camille Delean, and Carmel Scurti-Belley.
The new single from the album is “Parc de Beauvoir,” an alluring, ghostly song with an earworm “ooh ooh” chorus that shares just a little DNA with early New Order and Blonde Redhead (who they recently supported in Toronto and Montreal). “This song was written in a London park during our tour. We were in a contemplative, exhausted state as our kid was playing,” Bibi Club says. “‘Parc de Beauvoir’ is an ode to friendship, conveying nostalgia for our teenage years, an era during which we observe what’s happening around us and experience complex, powerful emotions. It’s a raw song about openness and friendship.”
