NYC industrial noisemakers Model/Actriz have announced Pirouette, a followup to 2023’s excellent Dogsbody, which arrives May 2 via True Panther/Dirty Hit (vinyl pre-order). It was co-produced and mixed by Seth Manchester, who also worked on Dogsbody. The first single is “Cinderella,” which uses a memory of singer Cole Haden wanting to have a Cinderella birthday party at five years old as the basis for a coming-out story, set to a musical melting pot of industrial, noise, rave, and punk. The Nathan Castiel-directed music video updates the Cinderella story for the modern-day gay club scene, starring Cole as its titular princess.
“That’s my experience as a gay youth,” he told Rolling Stone about the song’s premise. “I remember wanting to wear the dress, and I was imagining entering the party. And then I remember thinking about what other people would think of me.”
“Despite all of that pain,” he continues, “I still made it through to the other side. And I don’t have to defend myself like I did. I can let the shield down.” About the video, he adds that it’s the first time he’s ever done choreo on camera. “It really is a diva moment for me.” Check it out below.
