Marika Hackman announces new album ‘Big Sigh,’ shares “Hanging”

Marika Hackman has announced Big Sigh, her fourth album and first in four years, that will be out January 12 via Chrysalis. She co-produced it with Sam Petts-Davies (Thom Yorke, Warpaint) and long-term collaborator Charlie Andrew (Alt-J) and played every instrument except for brass and strings.

The album includes this summer’s excellent “No Caffeine,” and the new single is the expansive “Hanging.” Both these songs split the difference, sonically, between Hackman’s elegant debut album and her more pop-oriented 2019 album Any Human Friend. “‘Hanging’ is reflecting on a difficult past relationship and how you can trap yourself in a situation where you’re unable to grow into the next stage of your life,” Marika says. “The line ‘yeah you were a part of me / i’m so relieved it hurts’ is describing how painful it still is to break up even if it’s not right.”

You can watch the video for “Hanging” below.
