Madi Diaz has announced a new album, Fatal Optimist, due out on October 10 via ANTI-. It’s the follow up to last year’s Weird Faith, and a press release says that it “could be considered the final chapter in her heartache trilogy.” She worked on it with a new co-producer, Gabe Wax, and says, “Fatal Optimism is the innate hope for something magical. It’s the weird faith that kicks in while knowing that there is just plain risk that comes with wanting someone or something. It’s when you have no control over the outcome, but still choose to experience every moment that happens, and put your whole heart in it.”
The first single is “Feel Something,” a bare bones folk song which Diaz says is “about the deep yearning and desire to connect. It’s the moment when you’re trying to call in the love that was lost. It’s the first single off the album because it has the sense of urgency and panic that I felt at that first moment I noticed I was alone in my relationship.” Watch the video, directed by Allister Ann, below.
Diaz also announced a fall North American tour, including a Brooklyn show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 18. Tickets to all dates go on sale Friday, July 25 at 10 AM local, with various presales starting Tuesday, July 22 at 10 AM local. Before that tour starts, she’ll be in NYC supporting Caamp at Radio City Music Hall on September 12. See all dates below.
