L’Rain‘s new album fata morgana is out next month, and she’s just shared a second single from it. The shimmering “borderline” bubbles with electronic percussion while sheets of ethereal, metallic guitars swirl around Taja Cheek’s welcoming vocal melodies. It gets loud, it gets more rock and threatens to turn into a dancefloor banger before retreating from whence it came. Between this and “soulless cycle,” this is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated albums of late summer.
The “borderline” video was directed by Mackai Sharp, and features Arooj Aftab, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Tasha (who plays on the album), Rena Anakwe, and E. Jane. You can watch below.
The album is out August 14 and L’Rain has also announced a fall tour that begins September 14 at Tubby’s Kingston, and includes two shows at NYC’s Night Club 101 on September 28 & 29. All dates are below.
