London art punk group Man/Woman/Chainsaw formed during the pandemic and released their first EP in 2022 when most of the members were 16 years old. A few more singles and EPs, and 100 live shows later, and the group have signed to Fat Possum and will release their first record for the label, the Eazy Peazy EP, on November 8.
“We thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often trying to jump between the two,” says the band of their sound. “It’s that chaos that excites us.” You can definitely hear that dichotomy in “Ode to Clio,” the EP’s lead single that is named for the band’s violinist. It starts as windswept folk rock but builds to a maelstrom by the end, complete with some very wild guitar sounds.
“It took us a year to write and it’s a nonsensical collage of people and relationships we’ve encountered throughout that time – moving from serene to tumultuous, all held together by Clio’s overarching violin melody,” the band says. “We think it’s the centerpiece of the EP, it encapsulates the range of the sound palette we work with.”
