Simon Bonney of Crime & The City Solution is releasing Past, Present, Future via Mute on May 3 (preorder), which includes songs from his ’90s albums Forever and Everyman, as well as six tracks from an unreleased ’90s album that was titled Eyes of Blue. That album’s title track, an intense song with Simon backed only by electric guitar and piano, makes its premiere in this post. “Can’t be exactly sure what I was thinking about when I wrote ‘Eyes of Blue,’ my understanding of songs changes with time and where I’m at In life,” Simon tells us. “Seems to be about loss, losing someone dearly loved to their demons. Conversely, it could be about losing someone dear because of one’s own demons — either way the demons win out on this occasion and only the loss is left.” You can listen to “Eyes of Blue” below.
As mentioned, Simon will be on tour with Mark Lanegan this spring, including NYC-area stops at Brooklyn’s Warsaw on May 14 and Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony on May 16. All dates are listed below.
