Oasis‘ Liam Gallagher and The Stone Roses‘ John Squire have detailed their anticipated self-titled debut album, which will be out March 1 via Warner Music. The album was produced by Greg Kurstin, who also played bass, with Joey Waronker in the drummer’s seat.
Gallagher and Squire have known each other since the ’90s, but it was Liam’s 2022 shows at Knebworth Arena where John made an appearance that really got the ball rolling on this album. “It was really inspiring to have those Knebworth gigs fresh in my mind as I started writing,” says Squire. “Then it was a case of trying to steer it away from all being too rocky, and trying to mix up the sentiments as well. I like the way that in some parts, it’s quite melancholic and it can make you well up, but there are other parts that are kind of irreverent, rude or crude. There’s a little bit of everything in there, I think it’s a really good mix. I had a hunch that we’d sound good together, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a good fit.”
“I can’t wait for people to hear the album,” Liam says. “I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they’ll fucking love it. It’s spiritual, it’s crucial.”
The album includes “Just Another Rainbow,” and they’ve just shared a second single, “Mars to Liverpool,” which also sounds like what you’d expect to get these two together, and that’s a good thing. Listen to that below.
Gallagher and Squire have also announced spring tour dates. Most of them are in the UK, but they are coming to NYC to play Brooklyn Paramount on April 11, which is the only US date announced so far. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, February 2 at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
