Montreal’s La Sécurité have signed to Bella Union and have just dropped their first single for the label, which is a joint release with the band’s hometown label, Mothland. “Detour” is an art-punk nu-wave banger that picks up where last year’s debut left off and runs with it.
“We recorded the song with an old friend of mine, Renny Wilson,” says the band’s Éliane Viens-Synnott. “It was refreshing to watch him work on his instincts, trying to keep takes and tones as natural as possible, keeping everything open-ended to see where it could lead us. And since we know each other so well, it felt like he already knew what our music should sound like.” You can watch the video, directed by Eliem & c., below.
Meanwhile, La Sécurité will soon be on tour with The Go! Team, who are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album Thunder, Lightning, Strike. Those dates include NYC’s Irving Plaza on November 1, as well as shows in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. They’ve also got a Montreal show later in November, and all dates are listed below.
