June McDoom has a new EP, With Strings, on the way, featuring orchestral reworks of her own material and covers, and due out on November 10. She’s already shared a rendition of Judee Sill’s “Emerald River Dance” from it, and now she’s unveiled the second single, a gorgeous new version of her track “The City,” with Cécile McLorin Salvant and Kate Davis joining her on lush three-part harmonies. “‘The City’ was one of the first songs I ever wrote,” June says, “and it sort of came together in two parts with the help of my partner Evan Wright, helping with the harmony arch of the song. It was the first song I ever recorded and I always hoped to record a version more stripped down and closer to the original intentions I had for ‘The City’. Several friends helped make this new version very special. Sammy Weissberg wrote the string part and Cécile McLorin Salvant and Kate Davis joined me to record a three-part harmony we had sung live only once before at a show at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY.”
June has also announced her first-ever headlining tour this fall, with US shows in November, December, and January. See all dates below.
Ahead of the tour, there’s an EP listening party at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on November 11 (free with RSVP), and dates include an NYC show at Stone Circle Theatre at Ridgewood Presbyterian Church on December 7. Tickets to all dates go on sale Friday, October 20 at 10 AM local.
