Jesse Malin has shared a new single, “Argentina,” that he wrote while receiving treatment in Buenos Aires for the spinal-cord stroke he suffered in 2023 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. “This might be one of my most personal songs,” he says. “It was written while I was in a clinic in Buenos Aires for six months, doing everything to keep my head up. A lot of the inspiration for it comes from the nurses, doctors and physical therapists, and a lost ring owned by a departed friend that was personally delivered to me by Jimmy G (Murphy’s Law) as a gift to keep fighting.”
“As always in my songs, the themes are all there— transcendence, positivity and global unity through music,” he adds. “This is what I love to do, and I’m going to do everything I can to keep doing it.” Watch the video, filmed by Dave Stekert in Buenos Aires, below.
Jesse recently performed on CBS Saturday Morning, and he’ll make his official return to the stage at a pair of guest-filled hometown NYC shows, happening on December 1 and 2 at Beacon Theatre. He’s announced additional guests for the second night: Rickie Lee Jones, Adam Weiner of Low Cut Connie, Fred Armisen, and Eugene Hutz. Night two also has Lucinda Williams, The Hold Steady, J Mascis, Adam Durtiz and David Immy of Counting Crows, Butch Walker, Willie Nile, and Tommy Stinson, and night one will feature Lucinda Williams, Rickie Lee Jones, Jakob Dylan, Butch Walker, J Mascis, Adam Duritz and David Immy of Counting Crows, Alejandro Escovedo, and hosts Michael Imperioli and Mary-Louise Parker. Night one is sold out, but tickets for night two are on sale now, and proceeds will go to Malin’s Sweet Relief artist fund to help fund his medical treatment.
