Queens of the Stone Age recently canceled July shows in Europe as Josh Homme underwent emergency surgery, and now they’ve canceled their August festival appearances as well, as Homme is “under doctors’ orders” to “remain in their care in the United States.” Replacing them at Sweden’s Way Out West, Norway’s Oya and the Netherlands’ Syd for Solen festivals will be Jack White. All canceled QOTSA festival dates are below.
Jack White, as you may know, covertly released a new album last week, only on white label vinyl that was slipped into shoppers’ bags at his Third Man stores in Detroit, Nashville, and London. The album had “No Name” stamped onto its plain white sleeve, with no titles for its 13 songs. From today’s Notable Releases review: “Whether or not it is in fact his best, it’s undeniably his most White Stripes-y album since The White Stripes. These are raw, blistering garage rock/punk/blues hybrids that sound more like the Jack White who made “Fell In Love With A Girl” than the Jack White who made ‘Lazaretto.’ And if you’re wondering if Jack White can still fuck shit up like he did when The White Stripes played Letterman, all signs point to yes.”
Will this back-to-basics record get an official release? We’ll probably know sooner rather than later, as Jack White has announced a few very intimate shows happening in the next few days. He’ll play Nashville’s The American Legion Post 82 on Saturday (7/27), a benefit concert for the venue, which hosts a very popular honky tonk night on Tuesdays and needs a new sound system. Tickets go on sale today (7/26) at 10 AM Central.
Jack has also announced shows in Athens, GA’s 40 Watt on July 30 and Atlanta’s Terminal West on July 31. Tickets for those shows go on sale to Third Man Vault members at 10 AM Eastern, and any remaining tickets go on sale to the general public today at noon.
