Jack White has been living at extremes over the last few weeks surrounding the release of his new album No Name. He played a few intimate shows in Nashville, Atlanta and Athens, GA before jetting to Korea to play Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, before jetting back to the US to play Detroit, and then he headed to Scandinavia for headline festival appearances in in Gothenburg, Oslo, and Copenhagen.
Jack’s back in the US and just announced another intimate Nashville show, this time at Basement East tomorrow (8/13). Tickets go on sale for Third Man Vault members Tuesday morning at 10 AM Central and any remaining tickets go on sale to the general public at noon Central. That’s his only upcoming date apart from Desert Daze in October but chances are it won’t stay that way for long.
We were in Oslo for Øyafestivalen and caught Jack White’s headlining set on Friday where he and his band really ripped it up, seamlessly mixing songs from the new album with lots of White Stripes songs, a few other solo cuts and The Raconteurs’ “Steady, As She Goes.” No Name is being labeled a return to form (his most White Stripesy since the White Stripes) and, while he’s always got energy to spare, there seemed to be extra spark and spring in his step Friday night. You could feel it even from high atop the hill facing the main Amfiet stage, which is where I watched most of the show, a great vantage point to see the sea of people bouncing up and down to “Seven Nation Army,” “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground,” and more as the sun set late against the Oslo horizon.
