Glen Hansard announces new LP, shares “The Feast Of St. John”; tour with Marketa Irglova starts soon

Glen Hansard has announced his first solo album in over four years, All That Was East Is West Of Me Now, out October 20 via ANTI-. The record, produced by longtime collaborator David Odlum, took shape in late 2022 as Glen took residency at his local pub. He explains:

A song only becomes what it is through witness… I told no one [about the residency]. We set up in the corner and played to the locals, some of whom were only half listening. A collection of farmers and workers, dart players, pool sharks. I played two hours of new songs each week, some songs finished, some half-baked. Through this process I realized what I had and what I had to work on further – which songs landed and which ones were only good in my imagination. It solidified my choices right away. It was as if the album appeared in that bar. And not before.

The album kicks off with grounded, mid-tempo folk anthem “The Feast Of St. John,” which comes with a live performance music video featuring Warren Ellis (The Dirty Three, The Bad Seeds) who also plays on the studio version. Glen Hansard kicks off his Swell Season tour with Marketa Irglova in August, and continues on the road solo through the fall. Glen and Marketa reach NYC on August 12 at Radio City Music Hall. All dates below.
