Author and Wordless Music founder Ronen Givony released Us V. Them, a book looking back on Brooklyn’s indie music scene from 2004-2014, earlier this year, and to celebrate we’re teaming up with him, Wordless Music, and Roulette for a two-day event highlighting that same scene. It happens at Roulette on October 1 and October 2, and tickets are on sale now.
Night one “Celebrating Silent Barn,” is a benefit for Roulette with performances from Dirty Projectors‘ David Longstreth, Circuit des Yeux‘s Haley Fohr, and the Wordless Music String Quartet, plus a short discussion and reading from Us v. Them.
Night two is a standing room/GA show with The Fiery Furnaces, a rare set from Skeletons Big Band, and special guests to be announced.
Ahead of these shows, there’s also an Us v. Them photo show happening at Bushwick’s Selva from August 20-27, with an opening reception on August 20 at 7 PM. It’ll feature the work of active, independent professional photographers (some of whose work you’ve seen on BrooklynVegan over the years), including Ryan Muir (who also organized the show), Edwina Hay, Laura June Kirsch, Keith Marlowe, Richard Gin, Nick Rhodes, Jackie Roman, Tod Seelie, Rebecca Smeyne, and Ebru Yildiz, taken during the period of 2004-2014.
