DIIV announced over the weekend that their follow-up to Frog in Boiling water is titled ZIRP! and will be out October 30. The album was produced by PC Music founder and longtime Charli XCX collaborator A.G. Cook, who most recently co-produced all of Charli’s new “rock” album Music, Fashion, Film. He’s also worked with Beyoncé, Turnstile, Jónsi, and more.
The band say ZIRP! is “a new genre for the 21st century.” What that means, exactly, we’ll have to wait a while longer to find out as DIIV haven’t shared any music or details about the album beyond who produced it. You can check out what may be the album cover below.
Some fans got business cards in the mail which had a QR code that linked to the band’s website and listed a phone number: 1 229-798-9477. If you call you get this message: “Hello! Welcome to ZIRP!, the future of alternative multimedia entertainment. If you’re interesting in companies that challenge assumptions, create entirely new categories, and think on a global scale, we’d love to continue the conversation. Remember: Life is hard, ZIRP! is easy.” After the message there’s five seconds or so of very low-res music.
DIIV just wrapped up a tour of Asia, and will be supporting Interpol this October, and open for Basement in LA. All dates are listed below.
In related news, Charli released three “B-sides” from Music, Fashion, Film over the weekend, exclusively on iTunes.
