New Zealand artist Fazerdaze (Amelia Murray) has announced Soft Power, her second album and first album in seven years, which will be out November 15 via section1/Partisan. “This is what I created during the darkest, loneliest, most tumultuous years of my life—entering womanhood, navigating the world, the music industry, and what I thought was love,” says Murray, who produced the album herself. “In my scariest moments, this album was my anchor for hope, purpose, and light. I am so relieved and content to finally share Soft Power with you.”
“I wanted it to sound massive,” Murray says of the album, citing The Cure, Tame Impala and U2 as influences, “with a feminine twist on those rock records, carving out a space where women’s perspectives shine through….What I was searching for in others was something I needed to rediscover in myself. I had placed the second album on such a pedestal, but reconnecting with my original process during Break! was the key to finishing this record.”
The new single from the album is “Cherry Pie,” a synthy psych track that has more than a little in common, sonically, with Beach House. “‘Cherry Pie’ began as lyrics on my phone during my first overseas trip to LA almost ten years ago,” reflects Murray. “Now, at 31, this song has journeyed with me through many different versions of myself.” You can watch the video, co-directed by Murray and Frances Carter, below.
Fazerdaze will also be on tour this fall with Pond, including an NYC show at Brooklyn Steel on November 13. All dates are listed below.
