Fake Fruit have announced their second album, Mucho Mistrust, which will be out August 23 via Carpark. The band made the album with producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Home Is Where) and the album title comes from a Blondie lyric in “Heart of Glass” which here can be taken as a reference to our turbulent times and the state of the music industry.
Where Fake Fruit’s excellent debut was mostly made by Hannah D’Amato in a few different cities, Mucho Mistrust was written and recorded with a stable band. “Through all of our extensive touring with so many bands we look up to, we have grown so much as musicians and people,” says bandleader D’Amato. “There’s a lot more confidence and direction for how we write. I had always wanted to write more collaboratively. What does Fake Fruit sound like? How do we all write together? We do it so easily. It’s incredible.”
The first single from Mucho Mistrust is its jagged, hooky title track. “There were big life changes and I was so close to boiling over,” says D’Amato. “I left a bad relationship, entered a more stable and loving one, got diagnosed with alopecia, and I’m turning 30 soon too. This song was a snapshot of how I got through a difficult year.” Watch the video below.
