Beth Gibbons shares “Lost Changes” from solo debut (out this week)

Portishead’s Beth Gibbons releases her much anticipated, long-in-the-works debut solo album, Lives Outgrown, on Friday, and here’s the final pre-release single. “Lost Changes” is sweeping, gorgeous and mournful — all things you want in a song from Beth — as she sings “We’re all lost together / We’re fooling each other… we try but we just can’t explain / We took on a feeling a moment a gleaming / and said what’s the game” against a wall of strings.

“I realized what life was like with no hope,” says Beth. “And that was a sadness I’d never felt. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you’re up against your body, you can’t make it do something it doesn’t want to do.”

The eerie, beautifully shot video was made by acclaimed photographer Juno Calypso and you can watch that below.

Still no word on North American dates, but Beth’s tour starts May 27 in Paris and includes festival appearances at Primavera Sound and Fuji Rock. All dates (headline shows are with Bill Ryder-Jones) are listed below.

If you want to hear Lives Outgrown before Friday, there are listening parties, including one in Brooklyn on Thursday (5/16) at Eavesdrop.
