Buffalo Tom have announced vinyl reissues of Birdbrain (1990), Let Me Come Over (1992) and Big Red Letter Day (1993), all of which will be out November 8 via Beggars Arkive (preorder). They’ll also be playing the first two and more in full at a three-day mini-festival the band are putting on in Boston in November.
Those albums are the first three for Beggars Banquet: Birdbrain, like their self-titled debut, was produced by Dinosaur Jr‘s J. Mascis and features the singles “Fortune Teller” and the album’s title track; Let Me Come Over features alt-rock/college radio hits “Taillights Fade” and “Velvet Roof”; and Big Red Letter Day has “Soda Jerk” and “Late at Night,” both of which were used in iconic ’90s TV drama My So Called Life. As for the mini-festival, it’s called “Please Come to Boston” and happens November 1-3 at Arts in the Armory in Somerville, MA. Buffalo Tom will perform one full album each date — Let Me Come Over (Friday); Big Red Letter Day (Saturday); and 1995’s Sleepy Eyed (Sunday) — plus more songs from their 40 year career. Also there: comedy from Eugene Mirman and Dave Hill, readings by Tom Perrotta, Bill Janovitz and more, and a special Sunday morning session of Punk Rock Aerobics with Hilken Mancini.
“Hopefully a recurring autumn event, this is an invitation to travel to New England to see us perform some unique album sets,” says the band’s Chris Colbourn. “And to discover a bit of what has inspired us these past 40 years since settling down here – hometown neighborhoods, forests and beaches, bars, clubs and restaurants – are the setting and muse for so many of our songs.” Tickets are on sale and you can check out the poster below.
