Beak>’s Billy Fuller preps debut solo album: watch “Tailgates & Ratchet Straps” video

Billy Fuller is a founding member of Beak> and has played bass in Massive Attack, Robert Plant’s Sensational Space Shifters, Baxter Dury’s band and more. He’s only just got around to making his first solo album, Fragments, which will be out this Friday, April 3 via Invada Records.

You can get a taste of Fragments with “Tailgates & Ratchet Straps,” a bit of dirgey indie rock. “‘Tailgates & Ratchet Straps’ is a tongue in cheek song about getting older, pessimism about the music industry and a pleading message of regret to Europe from this sad old island,” he says. The video was made by Portishead and Beak> collaborator John Minton, who recently made his directorial debut with Invada Films’ first full-length feature film GAME which was co-written by Geoff Barrow and to which Fuller contributed some a cappella singing to the soundtrack. You can watch that, and listen to a couple other songs off the record, below.
