Black Milk & Nat Turner the Rebellion Tour @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Underground Detroit rapper Black Milk remains prolific, and earlier this year he put out the collaborative album The Rebellion Sessions with the live band Nat Turner. That’s the lineup he’ll be with in NYC tonight.
Ben Watt, Bernard Butler, Cameron Ralston, Pinson Chanselle, Zachary Cale @ Mercury Lounge
Everything But the Girl’s Ben Watt released his new album Fever Dream recently, full of well-crafted songs and exquisite playing. His band tonight includes ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, and the rhythm section from Matthew E. White’s Spacebomb.
Savoy Motel, Nude Beach, Cheena @ Union Pool
Nashville’s Savoy Motel are a fairly new band that features a few members you might know. It’s co-fronted by Jeffrey Novak of Cheap Time and Jessica McFarland of Heavy Cream, with her onetime bandmates and Mimi Galbierz and Dillon Watson rounding out the lineup. With help from a vintage Maestro Rhythm King drum machine, Savoy Motel have created a weird sonic world that has one foot in glittery glam, and the other in minimal, twitchy postpunk.
Demolition Hammer @ Saint Vitus
Bronx thrash vets Demolition Hammer were initially around in the late ’80s and ’90s, but broke up in ’94 and their career was documented with an anthology release in 2008 on Century Media. They got back together earlier this year for a set at Marylan Deathfest, and this week they play two sold-out shows at Saint Vitus.
Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Early November, Saosin, Saves The Day @ PNC Bank Arts Center
The Taste of Chaos tour is, weirdly enough, focusing on classic late ’90s / early ’00s emo this year. Just about this whole lineup (sorry Saosin) has put out at least one defining album of the genre.
Blue Oyster Cult @ BB King’s
It’s the fortieth anniversary of Blue Oyster Cult’s fourth album Agents of Fortune (you know, the one with “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”), and to celebrate they’ll play the album in full tonight. Cowbell jokes aside, this is a classic record and it should be fun to hear it front to back.
Jesse Malin @ City Winery
While D Generation have a new album on the way, Jesse Malin stays busy with solo work as well. Tonight he’ll be performing his 2003 solo debut, The Fine Art of Self Destruction, front-to-back at early and late shows tonight.
Rufus Wainwright @ Carnegie Hall
You may remember that Rufus restaged Judy Garland’s 1961 show at Carnegie Hall (which became the live album Judy at Carnegie Hall) in 2006 at the same venue. Ten years later, he’s doing it again.

Sax king Colin Stetson gathered fellow musicians Shahzad Ismaily, Greg Fox, and Toby Summerfield for this project EX EYE who make “hard, heavy music – aggressive, cathartic, and thrilling.”
Sean Nicholas Savage, Jerry Paper (& Easy Feelings Unlimited), Dougie Poole @ Secret Project Robot
Quirky performer Jerry Paper celebrates the release of his new album Easy Feelings Unlimited at this show.
Told Slant, Attic Abasement, Harmony Tividad @ Shea Stadium
It’s the release show for Told Slant’s bandcamp bedroom pop opus Going By, and there’s a cool lineup all around: chiptune punks Crying, long-running Rochester DIY band Attic Abasement, and Girlpool’s Harmony Tividad.
Swanning, T-Rextasy, Arm Candy, Fleabite, Trace Mountains @ Silent Barn
Swanning is the project led by Radiator Hospital’s Cynthia Ann Schemmer, and she just released her new album Drawing Down the Moon.
Mumford & Sons, BORNS @ Forest Hills Stadium
Folk revivalists turned Coldplay-ish rockers Mumford & Sons return to Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium for two nights.
Motion City Soundtrack, A Great Big Pile Of Leaves, By Surprise @ Gramercy Theatre
Motion City Soundtrack are calling it quits this year, but not before going on a farewell tour that includes a few shows in and around NYC. This one has especially good openers: math-pop band A Great Big Pile of Leaves and ’90s-inspired indie rockers By Surprise.
Porches, Delicate Steve, Lip Talk, New Myths, You Bred Raptors? @ Destination Moon FestCamp Lakota
It’s the first day of this upstate camping-centric festival in Wurtsboro, NY.
