Bully, Heat, Dead Soft @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
If you miss the kind of alternative rock that you heard on the radio in the late ’90s, Bully might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s also worth showing up for Montreal’s Heat.
Dave Chappelle @ Gramercy Theatre (2 shows)
Dave Chappelle did a multi-night run at the intimate (for his standards) Gramercy Theatre back in February, and this week he does it again. It begins tonight with 9 and 11:30 PM sets.
Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls, Skinny Lister, Beans on Toast @ Irving Plaza
British folk punk Frank Turner kicks off a 3-night stand at Irving Plaza tonight in support of his new album Positive Songs For Negative People, with likeminded openers. These are small shows for Frank, and all are sold out.
Ben Howard, Daughter @ Radio City Music Hall
We’re not crazy about the headliner, but it’s worth noting that the UK’s 4AD-signed Daughter are back in NYC tonight.
Lee Corey Oswald, Soda Bomb, Young Ladies @ Saint Vitus Bar
If you’re into ’90s-ish melodic indie-punk, this whole bill could be up your alley.
Nap Eyes, Mega Bog, Happy You @ Baby’s All Right
Hailing from Halifax, NS, Nap Eyessound a bit like The Clean or The Modern Lovers or another Lou Reed descendent of your choice. This is their final of three NYC shows.
Lower Dens, Abdu Ali @ Bowery Ballroom
Having released the terrific Escape from Evil earlier this year, Lower Dens swing through NYC one more time, tonight with experimental rapper Abdu Ali.
Mike Krol, Trophy Bucks @ Cake Shop
Mike Krol makes smartass, punky guitar pop and you can hear the sneer coming through loud and clear. After releasing two 10″ records via his own Counter Counter Culture label, Krol moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles and signed with Merge Records who will released his new record, Turkey, in August.
Night Train w/ David Cross @ Littlefield
Soon to be back on TV with his old Mr. Show pal Bob Odenkirk, David Cross fills in for regular Night Train host Wyatt Cenac tonight and welcomes guests Jo Firestone, Randy Liedtke, Aaron Glaser, and KT Tatara. Sold out.
Tears for Fears @ Capitol Theatre
Few records epitomize that Big ’80s sound like Tears for Fears’ 1985 album Songs from the Big Chair. Roland Orzaball and Curt Smith are celebrating its 30th anniversary on this tour.
