Watch Robin Pecknold cover Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill, Karen Dalton, Elliott Smith & more in NYC

Fleet Foxes‘ fifth album is apparently in the works, but meanwhile, Robin Pecknold is in the midst of a solo acoustic tour that began at Levin Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY last week and hit NYC for two shows at Bowery Ballroom: last night (11/18) and Sunday night (11/17). In addition to playing many Fleet Foxes favorites throughout his lengthy, 20+ sets, he’s been doing a lot of cool covers. He did two songs by Joni Mitchell, who he recently performed with in Los Angeles, “Amelia” and “The Silky Veils of Ardor,” as well as Karen Dalton‘s rendition of the traditional “Katie Cruel,” Judee Sill‘s “Lopin’ Along Thru the Cosmos,” Elliott Smith‘s “Pitseleh” (which he told the crowd was the first song he ever performed live, at a junior high talent show), Bobbie Gentry‘s “Courtyard,” the Bee Gees‘ “In the Morning,” Arthur Russell‘s “Close My Eyes,” and the traditional “Silver Dagger” that Fleet Foxes have a recorded version of (and that Joan Baez helped popularize). As Stereogum helpfully points out, IronChefWong took great-quality videos of the show, and it probably comes as no surprise that Robin sounds amazing doing songs like these.

Check out footage of all the covers of some of the Fleet Foxes songs, and the setlist from last night below. We’ve also got pictures from that show coming soon too so stay tuned. UPDATE: See those, by Dimitry Mak, below as well. The tour continues with shows in Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and LA. All dates here.
