St. Vincent‘s live show has shifted shape multiple times over the years, from the precisely choreographed “Fear the Future” tour for MASSEDUCTION to 2021’s theatrical, ’70s-vibed Daddy’s Home run. For her shows supporting this year’s fantastic All Born Screaming, she’s still delivering the theatrics, but firmly in rock band mode, and Tuesday night’s show at Brooklyn Paramount, her first of two sold-out nights at the venue, felt like a return to form in the best way. Her intense guitar attacks as she teetered around the stage were intercut with performance art-minded staging as she interacted with the moving arches, and it all happened in front of intense lighting and glitchy visuals, setting the mood. Her All Born Screaming material really came alive in this format, especially with a great backing band that includes Beck collaborator Jason Falkner on guitar and Charlotte Kemp Muhl on bass. She went back into her discography as far as 2009’s Actor for “Marrow” (nothing off Marry Me, though), and also talked about her love of NYC and the time she lived in a rent-controlled Lower East Side apartment before playing “Dilettante.”

Tuesday night’s show streamed on Veeps and is still available for rewatch for another day. Round two at Brooklyn Paramount for St. Vincent happens tonight (9/11), and the North American leg of her tour continues through September, wrapping up at Riot Fest, with overseas dates to follow.
